BBS photos today: street crime

BBS posts may be like talk radio in the US: an easy place to connect with an ongoing conversation about rapid social change.  The following story seems like the kind of issue that would make the rounds in American talk radio.

Someone on Sina.com BBS has posted a series of photos detailing a mugging on the street in broad daylight.  A woman is being attacked and robbed while people walk and bicyle by. The photo poster calls the incident a challenge to the government and a challenge to society at large, and enlists readers in combatting crime. Subsequent comments touch on the role of the police, the photographer, and the onlookers, and even question the authenticity of the photos.

What I notice is not the mugging itself, but those apathetic passersby. 

I’m a university student, someone with enough education to give up my seat on a bus, watch the traffic lights when I cross the street, and throw garbage in the garbage can. But what’s the point, in this kind of a society?

Reforms have gone well, society is flourishing, feelings are gone. 

The person who posted these had time to take all these photos but no time to help? 

I bet they’re fake, some classmates playing around.
