need for Chinese mobile phone hacking blog in English

Advanced Chinese mobile phones are gaining an audience, but judging from the comments that are still piling up on this ChinaTech news item from May, there seems to be a growing need for a Chinese mobile phone hacking website — in English.  Someone should do it!

On May 21, 2007, ChinaTech posted a general news article/press release titled CECTs Mobile Handset Offers Fingerprint Recognition, which described the release of “the T100, a mobile phone featuring fingerprint recognition and streaming TV,” by Qiao Xing Mobile’s subsidiary CECT.  A month later a reader named RUMELL posted the following:

I want to get CECT mobile phone software. please send this.

The comment has spawned a long scroll of desperate non-Chinese-speaking owners of CECT phones from all over the world, in search of help, hacks, software, CECT phones, and especially, manuals in English.  People are exchanging emails.  The article is the top Google hit for a search of “CECT mobile English.”  Excerpted comments, including one exasperated reader who wonders why people buy phones they can’t operate, and even a Nigerian in search of business opportunities, below:

Hi,
Im a proud owner of CECT T888 and i wish they could add features like
bluetooth and pc sync.It sucks having to download almost everythin via
USB.But the fon is so cool!

do all of you idiots need these manuals for CECT mobile phones? Why
didn’t you think of that when you bought those Chinese phones?
Obviously since so many don’t have a manual, they are difficult to
find, and therefore they probably are not available. Are there this
many stupid consumers on planet earth that still buy dumb Chinese
products?

  1. The number of small 国产 domestic cellphone companies in China is surprisingly high, and they make some strange but cool phones. My favorite is the Gionee V9, which sports a Nintendo emulator that you can play on the phone in landscape mode, or hook up to your TV and use the phone simply as a controller. It got awful reviews on the phone BBSs when I last looked, otherwise I’d own one right now.

  8. I recently got a CECT S560 Phone. Its a nice phone with a lot of features. The only thing I want to know is…Can I use the USB power cable to connect this phone to my laptop pc? Cause its says on the box “USB Disk Function” Also,can i get the User Manual?

  27. i have CECT p3611 TV Phone With Dual Card.. the same problem with other user is.. we can’t find the software resources,even onthe web.. stupid chines why don’t have english manual.. what a faKz man.. so any body is desperate..hey btw is connected to the pc,you got 3 options,storage, webcam, and com port, is detected with the name MT6277 and i have download da pc suite.. it’s calling PhoneSuite V2.1.4 just get it..itwork..
    WHAT THE FAKZ OS DID THEY HAVE.. it’s PDA-MP4, cmooon share the software for it.. thanks for every one and have a good hunt..

    I have a cell phone whose description is as follows according to the writing on the phone itself: pda 2 GSM mobile 3d sounds mp3 mp4 high resolution digital phone chinese model, touch screen, has stylis, comes with two batteries, charger holds on battery at a time, can charge through USB, has GPRS/GSM, wap enabled, two SIM Card slots, built in digital keyboard, fully loaded with Chinese, arabic, english languages, and many more features,
    Unfortunately, the phone has no name on it but the battery’s has chinese writing on it so I know it is chinese model.
    Can someone tell me what model it is?

    I recently purchased a Cect a380i phone. I was wondering if its possible to change the message tones. I want to use a simple tone not a long song and there seems to be no way to use any tones other than those which come with the phone. Please help!

  93. Java games cannot work on Chinese phones. To download games for your chinese phones, simply browse for for files with .nes extension. NES atands for Ninetendo Entertainment System.
