“Only” 45.8% of China’s netizens have been attacked by a virus in 2010

I was skimming through the latest “state of the Chinese internet” report from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). It’s a pretty comprehensive study by a government body that interviews 60,000 people from 31 regions/areas.

One section that caught my eye was internet security. The report was boasting that only 45.8% of those polled had been attacked by a virus or Trojan in the past year – down 10.8% from the previous year!

Similarly with stolen passwords, though the numbers were not as extreme:

 

Which all in all is pretty crazy. Almost half of everyone had been the victim of a virus, and over a fifth have had their passwords stolen.

I don’t know what the figures are for the US or elsewhere, but I’m willing to bet they aren’t this high. Of course, the percentage of outdated Internet Explorer users is also probably not this high…
