Featured HK artist: Stella So
Posted on by Jason Li
Stella So is an up and coming illustrator and graphic novelist in Hong Kong. I recently purchased her graphic manual of old Hong Kong titled 粉末都市—消失中的香港 (City of Powder — the disappearing Hong Kong), pictured above.
She’s also done some illustration work for magazines and newspapers, and she’s recently released an autobiographical graphic novel about day-to-day life (stories are a bit too casual for my taste).
But when I was home, she was also doing these brilliant recipe illustrations for the local Mingpao paper (thanks mom for showing me):
(Disclosure: This is the kind of drawing style I had planned on using for my own graphic novel project, so it’s both great and sad to see someone beat me to it!)
I love Stella So’s work, and I’ll definitely try to get her autograph at the HK book fair 🙂
Cool. Have u read her new book by any chance? Oh BTW I’ll be in HK in August, wanna meet up for a coffee or something?
Cool! Do you know if there are any available or upcoming international translations?
Doubt it. Most local Hong Kong books/comics don’t ever make it outside of the immediate area 🙁
Random to find this image from Google Images – and find that it’s posted by you! Thanks for sharing, I will try to make it to the General Assembly Course today 🙂
